Your Summer Home Maintenance Checklist

Your Summer Home Maintenance Checklist (From a Contractor Who’s Seen It All)

Summer’s here, and while we know you're looking forward to beach days, barbecues, and backyard hangs, it’s also the perfect time to give your home a little TLC. As residential contractors working throughout the North Shore of Long Island, we’ve seen what happens when summer maintenance gets ignored and it usually shows up in the form of big fall headaches.

Here’s a quick and easy Summer Home Maintenance Checklist to keep things running smoothly:

Clean & Inspect Your Gutters

You might’ve cleared them in the spring, but pollen, seed pods, and debris build up fast. Clogged gutters can cause water damage to fascia boards and even your foundation. Bonus tip: make sure downspouts are aimed away from the house.

Check for Cracks in Walkways & Patios

Summer heat can worsen small cracks in concrete and masonry. If you catch them early, a quick patch now can save you from a full replacement later.

Power Wash Your Exterior

A simple power wash can do wonders for your siding, decking, or driveway. It’s not just about looks! Mold and algae can break down materials over time.

Inspect Windows & Doors for Air Leaks

Even with the A/C running, drafts mean wasted energy and higher bills. Seal up gaps around windows and doors with caulk or weather stripping.

Look Up: Check the Roof

From the ground (or with binoculars), scan for missing shingles or signs of damage. Summer storms are no joke on the North Shore, and catching an issue now can prevent water damage later.

Schedule HVAC Service

Your system works overtime in the summer. Make sure it’s clean and running efficiently before the next heatwave hits. A service call is cheaper than an emergency repair!

Here’s to a safe, happy, and low-maintenance summer!
